Why and how Doconchain redesigns the economic model of Web2 Gig platforms for the Web3
From a Web2 toll gate to an ownership economy: When we started Doconchain, we wanted to provide solutions to a community of freelancers and creators with 2 layers of services. A first layer for independent workers who can take advantage of blockchain and NFTs, to boost their business and a second layer based on a gig marketplace that redesigns the ‘Gig’ web2 economic model to allow users to take advantage of an ownership economy. We have already built the layer 1 with innovative solutions that can be customized for layer 2.
We have developed the DOC Paperless suite for freelancers to allow them to prepare deals using our collaborative tools (messaging and video meeting), to sign documents (e.g.agreements) with tamper-proof digital versions using our new generation of eSignature solutions NFT protected and our Doc passport solution which allows to track the monitoring and verification of the document’s integrity via an access to verifiable elements recorded on the blockchain. The suite also allows users to manage digital bills and build a templates library… And you can use these innovative tools and solutions starting with a (real) free plan.
We have also developed the Copyright NFT studio for creators that allows them to protect and monetize their original work with a new generation of intelligent NFTs associated with copyright that enables rights and ownership to be transferred while recording the copyright elements and the transfers on a blockchain ledger. These NFTs can also be ‘exported’ to different blockchain marketplaces.
Regarding the Gig marketplace, the key question for us was, how to redesign the economic model of the Web2 gig platforms with something that could benefit all parties involved (freelancers, buyers but also Doconchain and its investor’s community). First, we wanted to redesign the gig economic model because the web2 model is misaligned with the interest of the value providers (the talents), from sudden rule changes that take away talent audiences and profits to abusive taxes and delayed payments, we knew that many things had to be changed. We also knew from experience that blockchain, NFTs and a token economy can definitely help redesign this gig marketplace economic model. At the same time, we were impressed with what happened in the gaming industry with blockchain games like Axie Infinity (our team has many gamers, starting with me and my co-founder Kevin) and the way this P2E game onboards non-crypto-savvy players by educating them about the benefits of the token economy and letting them get started via scholarship programs.
We understand that ownership is a powerful motivator for users to contribute to a marketplace but to answer our initial question, we wanted to find the right balance between giving users ownership of the relation with buyers and at the same time encouraging them to continue to use the marketplace for their business development.
We decided that the answer could be a mix between access to unique and secure solutions and tools, and a ‘no brainer’ economic model that clearly benefits them when selling gigs on the marketplace. As for the new solution’s adoption pattern, we know from experience that first, early-adopters use new solutions to do things that were impossible before new technology empowered them to do so. Then, with a growth hacking strategy, we can make these new solutions and our innovative model more accessible to a wider audience. With this in mind, we have designed, around a token economy model, the following gig marketplace which is currently in development and is expected to be released in January 2022.
Premium plans, scholars, copyright NFTs, tokens, DAO and ownership economy are the keywords for this new generation of gig marketplace.
Premium plans with unlimited access to Doconchain solutions: For this marketplace, we started by creating premium plans for gig providers that allow holders to have unlimited access to all Paperless solutions and copyright NFT studio tools. This means that the premium plan holder will be able to set up deals with gig buyers using our free messaging and video meeting tools, sign the agreement using a template and the e-Signature solution NFT protected while having bills and receipts managed automatically via smart contract in the blockchain. In addition, all original works will benefit from our NFT solution with the automatic creation of copyright NFTs which will be transferred to buyers with the gig work.
As we said above, we were impressed with P2E games and the scholarship model. Based on this concept, we have decided to allow premium plan holders to access to 4 seats (with a basic premium plan) to provide different gigs. In other words, the premium plan holders will be able to create 4 different gigs or onboard scholars (allocating them seats) who will create and sell their gigs while benefiting from the premium manager plan and its coaching (before to become themselves managers).
A DEFI model to kill the fees on gig provider proceeds (from av. 20% to 1%): We designed a model flexible for the marketplace users and the ones no yet crypto savvy, based on a credit system, the same one used in the gaming industry, but associated to a stable coin and a token economy that benefits gig providers. With this model, gig buyers can purchase gigs (buying credits) with fiat or crypto currencies and gig providers receive tokens (when the gig is delivered) for an amount that represent 99% of the gig cost. Transaction are instantly managed in the blockchain from all over the world and skilled unbanked talents can also participate and start to make incomes… The tokens can be exported to DEX and converted or used on a staking program to increase earnings with yield (and maybe subscribe to partner offers such as a medical insurance contract).
The new generation is moving to the “mobile wallet economy” while working remotely with a access to the metaverse and we are excited to participate to the transformation by providing secure tools and solutions.
An innovative end-to-end process that take advantage of web3 to develop an ownership economy: The marketplace enables gig providers to subscribe to premium plans and benefit from unlimited access to Doconchain solutions to engage with gig buyer in P2P relations. Each Premium Plan owner (the PP Manager) gets several ‘gig seats’ that he can use or offer to other gig providers under a scholarship model. Each gig seat allows the holder to design an offer page and access Doconchain tools to make a deal with a buyer, build the gig while interacting directly with the buyer and deliver it with a copyright NFT, when the gig is an original work.
A new generation of gigs with higher added value: The solutions and tools developed by Doconchain make it possible to offer a new generation of gig based on Copyright NFTs. In addition to services (e.g. social asset management or token promotion) the DOC Gig marketplace will allow to go one step further, with original works such as video, music, design or technical code, making it possible to automatically record the work copyright and evidence in the blockchain and create its unique copyright NFT (with rights attached) which can be transferred to the buyer with the gig.
Conclusion: The Doconchain gig marketplace, also with a pro version for branding campaigns, should be released in January 2022 and will contribute to a transition to the ‘ownership economy’ where assets are created by remote workers and transferred, with copyright records, to new owners using NFTs associated with copyright passports which give access to verifiable elements and history of ownership. “The future is already here, it’s just not evenly distributed” William Gibson
